LORICA’S DONOVAN JOINS HEATH LAMBERT

Stephen Donovan has taken up his new role as group marketing director of Heath Lambert, the independent insurance broker and employee benefits consultancy. Donovan, who has 20 years’ experience, has held senior sales and marketing positions with AXA, BUPA, Sedgwick, Ernst & Young and most recently Lorica Consulting.

FORESTERS FRIENDLY NAMES CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Foresters Friendly Society has appointed Kevin Dann as its new chief executive officer. Dann joins Foresters following fourteen years with international investment and financial services group Alliance Trust plc. Between 1996 and 2006 he was managing director of Alliance Trust Savings Ltd before being appointed chief operating officer of City-based Alliance Trust Pensions Ltd in 2006.

APPOINTMENTS AT AON

Aon Consulting has made a number of appointments in both its domestic and international business units. Helen Halewood (pictured)joins as a sales manager from Equiniti and will work on Aon Benefits Solutions’ flexible benefit and total reward services. Andrew Leslie has been appointed head of operations of Aon’s Benefits Solutions division in London, while Chris Simmons has been appointed national operations manager for the unit. Leslie, an associate of the Pensions Management Institute, has been tasked with steering the expansion strategy for health and risk benefits, DC pensions and flexible benefits within the London office. Simmons will now be responsible for business performance measurement and organisational improvement plans. Meanwhile, Mark Sullivan has been named practice leader for global benefits for Aon Consulting in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining Aon, Sullivan held the position of European head of international at Mercer, having worked both in the US and the UK. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and is chairman of the UK Association of Consulting Actuaries International Committee. Finally, Paul Beck joins Aon from Jardine Lloyd Thompson and brings 20 years of experience in the employee benefits market, with particular expertise in DC pensions.

RICE JOINS CIGNA AS HEAD OF SALES

Doug Rice has joined CIGNA HealthCare as sales director of its UK healthcare business. Rice, who has over 11 years’ experience within the UK corporate healthcare market, joins CIGNA from BUPA Wellness, where he was head of sales.

PHILIP SPIERS STEPS DOWN FROM NHFA TO JOIN FIRST STOP ADVICE

Philip Spiers has stepped down from the board of NHFA Care Advice to take up the new position of Acting chief executive officer of First Stop Advice. First Stop Advice is a new “one stop” advisory service for older people, their families and carers covering housing, care, money and rights. It brings together the skills of Help the Aged, Elderly Accommodation Counsel, Counsel and Care and NHFA Care Advice.

HOPE NAMED MINISTER FOR SOCIAL CARE

Phil Hope has been appointed as a minister in the Department of Health (DH), taking over the social care portfolio from Ivan Lewis. Hope has been given the brief as a minister, whereas Ivan Lewis was a junior minister in the department, and his appointment precedes a forthcoming green paper on reform of social care funding. Prior to his appointment, Hope was minister for the third sector at the cabinet office. Before that, he was a skills minister in the Department for Education and Skills and a parliamentary undersecretary of state in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister. Hope is also minister for the East Midlands. Lewis, who until the reshuffle was the longest standing minister at the DH, has been moved to a junior ministerial post at the Department for International Development. There were no other appointments in health as part of Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s reshuffle.

NON-EXEC ROLE FOR MARK ADAMS

Mark Adams, the former chief executive officer of AXA PPP healthcare, has been appointed as non executive director of Premier Medical Group, the UK’s largest provider of medical opinion. Adams, who is currently CEO of Virgin Healthcare, has also been CEO of the UK business of Netcare, the South African healthcare provider. He also advised medical insurer PruHealth on its entry to the UK market.

HCA GROUP CLINICAL DIRECTOR

HCA International, the chain of London private hospitals, has appointed Rosemary Hittinger as group director of clinical performance and governance. The post is now a full-time position, and Hittinger, who has seven years’ experience with HCA and previously carried out this role on a part-time basis, will continue her work with senior hospital management and clinical quality personnel. Hittinger joined HCA in 2001 as clinical governance manager at the Wellington Hospital, where she established one of the first clinical governance programmes in the independent sector. Before that, she spent over 25 years in the public sector, and is a previous president of the Royal Society of Medicine’s Section on Quality in Healthcare.

WESTFIELD APPOINTS INTERMEDIARY CONSULTANT

Health cash plan provider Westfield Health has announced the appointment of Trish Leyland as intermediary healthcare consultant. Leyland joins Westfield from Atlas Consulting Group, where she was an employee benefits consultant. At Westfield, she will take on responsibility for intermediaries located in the North of England and Scotland. Previous roles have also included intermediary sales consultant with Clinicare for five years. Westfield said the appointment follows an 83% increase in policyholders via intermediary sales to date this year compared with the same period in 2007.

BUPA INTERNATIONAL NAMES MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Bupa International has appointed Dr Sneh Khemka to the role of medical director, with responsibilities across the organisation’s global operations. Dr Khemka previously held the position of assistant medical director for Bupa Group, where he helped to drive the medical strategy and ensure clinical governance across the organisation. He will be based in London and Brighton, with responsibilities spanning the medical assistance centre in Copenhagen. He reports to Bupa International’s chief operating officer John Stubbington. Prior to joining Bupa, Dr Khemka was a general and ophthalmic surgeon. He also gained considerable experience with healthcare systems around the world as a charity expedition doctor.

ASSURANT APPOINTS COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR

Assurant Solutions, the provider of specialised insurance and insurance-related products, has appointed Jeremy Andrews as commercial director with responsibility for the management of sales and client relationship management. Andrews, who joined the business three years ago, has been head of business development for the past two years. He has 10 years’ experience within the payment protection market. Assurant is also merging its business development and client relationship teams based out of Slough with immediate effect.
