We round up the biggest opinion pieces of the year

As the biggest stories of the past 12 months rocked the private medical insurance (PMI) and protection industries, Health Insurance's columnists were on hand to provide insightful commentary and analysis and, as ever, spark debate.

Regular columnists Marcia Reid, Tony Levene and Peter Le Beau got their teeth into topics including Bupa's withdrawal from the individual PMI broker market, the launch of overseas healthcare provider Passport2Health, and the uncomfortable similarities between short-term income protection products and payment protection insurance.

Meanwhile, Health Insurance deputy editor Tessa Norman started her new regular column this year by focusing on innovation in the protection industry, and questioning why so many advisers appear to have missed an opportunity with the EU gender directive.
