Quarterly report from Saga
The number of over 65s in employment has risen significantly in the past year, according to data from Saga.
Saga’s Quality of Life Index shows that the number of people aged over 65 in work increased by 124,000 (15%) in the final quarter of this year, compared to the same period in 2011.
Saga reports that long-term unemployment remains an issue for over 50s, however.
The default retirement age of 65 was scrapped by the Government last year, which has since raised concerns that employers must do more to cater to an older workforce in terms of health-related benefits.
