Gay also stepping down from AMI

Stephen Gay, director general of the Association of Independent Financial Advisers (AIFA), is to leave the organisation to take up the position of director of life, savings and protection at the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

Gay, who spent over a year at AIFA, is also stepping down from his role as director general of the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries.

During his time at AIFA Gay oversaw a strategic review of the organisation which opened the trade body’s membership to restricted advisers.

His leaving date and successor is still to be announced.

AIFA recently appointed Chris Hannant as policy director. Hannant, who has held roles at the Department for Trade & Industry and HM Treasury, has also worked at the ABI and manufacturers' organisation EEF.
